Jason Scales, managing director of Hubb, a blockchain incubator at the Isle of Man, told FinTech Global that banks are facing a lot of pressure from “crypto companies, and in particular exchanges, with clients looking to have banking relationships and using the ‘you already bank Coinbase’ stick to beat them with.”

He continued, “This has only been possible because of ringfencing and the separation of the retail and commercial banking arms of these major banks. But in recent times – with the looming financial uncertainties globally – these commercial banking arms have also begun to tighten their risk profiles. From a trust point of view, reputable exchanges want tier one banking relationships.”

Taking place this Sunday (21st July), the action-packed sporting event comprises of four separate cycling challenges, starting and finishing at Mooragh Park in Ramsey. That includes the gruelling 85-mile Gran Fondo, which takes place on largely closed roads, the 40-mile Medio Fondo for recreational riders, the 20-mile Piccolo Fondo for families and beginners and the Minisculo Fondo, a half-mile circuit in and around Mooragh Park aimed at children and families.

Competitors will be followed around the 85-mile circuit by two service vehicles, provided by event sponsor The Hubb, which will offer assistance and equipment for riders that suffer mechanical issues during the race. The Steam Packet Company has offered its support by providing free of charge travel for one of the service vehicles, which travelled to the island this week ahead of the event.

The Hubb, based on Victoria Street, aims to be a supportive facility for new and existing organisations and is already being backed by the Isle of Man Blockchain Office.
